Arrival - Algiers

The city of Algiers at night

Welcome to the historic city of Algiers. Your guide will take you to the hotel for a rest. If you have an early arrival, you will take a downtown walking tour to visit sites including the Grande Poste, the port, and historic mosques. If time permits, you may also visit Basilica Notre Dame d’Afrique for a panoramic view of the city. For those with early morning arrivals, you may want to spend the afternoon on a tour through the historic UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah. Accommodation Options: 3, 4, 5-star Hotel

Algiers - Tipaza - Tomb of the Christian - Tamanrasset
Roman Ruins along the sea

Tipaza Roman ruins on the Algerian coast

After breakfast, you will travel to Tipaza, where you will enjoy beautiful views and well-preserved Roman ruins along the Mediterranean Sea. Explore its historic basilica, which is said to be the largest in North Africa. If you enjoy seafood, you may want to dine at a local restaurant nearby for a fresh fish lunch. Next, continue to Cherchell to visit two archaeological museums housing many Roman antiquities. Finally, on your way back to Algiers, you will stop at the mysterious pyramid-like structure of the Tomb de le Christian. You will transfer to the airport to board a domestic flight to the deep desert town of Tamanrasset. Most flights depart later in the evening. Upon arrival, transfer to a local guesthouse for the night.

Tamanrasset - Assekrem - Hoggar

Hermitage of Charles de Foucauld

After breakfast, you will depart for Ahaggar National Park, heading towards the  spectacular lunar-like mountain formations of the Akarakar Plateau. Next, you will make a stop to view the oasis, Water Guelta of Afilal. After lunch, you will continue your journey towards Assekrem. You can visit the hermitage of Charles de Foucauld, where the French monk lived in solitude and contemplation in the early 20th century. Travelers can explore the simple stone chapel he built, still tended by monks today. If timed correctly, you can watch the sun set over the dramatic volcanic peaks of the Sahara. Hoggar - Tanguet

Sunrise at Assekrem

If you are an early riser, consider waking up early to climb to a high point to witness the sunrise. It is said that Assekrem is the world’s most beautiful location for sunrises and sunsets. The remainder of your day will be spent exploring local sites, including ancient rock paintings dating back to 6000 BC. Return to Tanguet for dinner. Accommodation: Basic Camping (all meals provided on this day)

Tanguet - Tahifet
In the morning, depart Tanguet to spend the afternoon passing through and exploring the picturesque regions of Tamekreste. You will make stops at the villages of indigenous Touarègues Indalag and Tahifet. These stops will provide you with valuable insights into life in the Sahara. Along the way, you will view the historic paintings and engravings that are unique to this region.Accommodation: Basic Camping (all meals provided on this day)

Tahifet - Tamanrasset

Today, you will travel back to Tammanrasset and explore the city if time permits. You will have time to rest at a local guesthouse before your flight to Algiers.

Departure

Today you will take a middle-of-the-night flight back to Algiers. (Most flights to Algiers are after midnight).

Upon arrvival in Algiers, you will have an early check-in at the hotel and rest until noon.

In the afternoon, you will have a guided tour of Algiers’ Kasbah. Afterwards, you may also visit some local museums such as the Bardo Museum and the Museum of Archaeology and Islamic Art.

If you have time before your flight, your guide will show you more of the historical sites in the city. Your driver will take you to the airport for your departure flight.
